Breast cancer is a scary disease. It has claimed many lives and does not seem to be ending anytime soon. Though breast cancer has the power to end life, breast cancer is not a death sentence and there are ways to prevent it. Here are five steps to preventing breast cancer.
1. Get rid of cigarettes and alcohol
Limit or stop smoking and drinking alcohol. Excessive alcohol drinking and cigarette smoking has been linked to various forms of cancer including breast cancer. One easy step to helping to prevent cancer is ridding these harmful products from your everyday use. If you feel it is necessary to smoke or drink, limit them as much as possible.
2. Watch your weight
Weight can play a major factor in breast cancer. Women who become obese after menopause tend to be affected most. Be sure to eat healthy and exercise regularly to avoid excessive weight gain.
3. Get a mammogram
The average recommended age to get a mammogram is 40 years old. If you are over 40 and have never received one, make an appointment right away. If you are younger then 40 and noticed any changes in your breast or pain in your breast, see a doctor immediately.
4. Sweat it
Five hours is the minimum time that should be spent sweating a week. Sweating helps the body release toxins, and helps to ward of cancer. Whether it is in a gym, dancing, rock climbing, cleaning, heck what ever you need to do to sweat, get it done!
5. Eat HealthyÂ
You should always maintain a healthy diet for your overall health. There are several foods that have been known to decrease the risk of breast cancer. Dark green leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach help to reduce great cancer. Broccoli, pomegranate, flax seeds, as well as berries are all great to add to your diet.
