Naturalistas, a new season is right around the corner and that means a new hair care routine!

Yes, the harsh winds and cold temperatures can do a number on our hair. But don’t worry, Thank God It’s Natural has always got you covered. Check out these seven sure-fire tips on how to kick dryness to the curb and keep your curls on point this fall.

Hot-Oil Treatments

Hot-oil treatments are the best thing to happen since free nights and weekends. The treatment is kind of like the deep-condition’s little cousin. It comes from the same family tree, but has different parents. Standard hot-oil treatments are heated either in the microwave, or immersed in hot water. In order to get the most out of it, massage the hot oil into the scalp and let it work in for about 10 minutes. (If the oil is too hot, give it a minute or two to cool down.) When you’re finished, gently rinse, dry, and style as desired. Try it with tgin’s Argan Replenishing Hair and Body Serum or Miracle RepaiRx Anti-Breakage Serum.

Get Some Steam

We all know heat is no bueno. But sometimes its unavoidable, that doesn’t mean we have to take the traditional route. Instead of just sitting under the dryer at the salon after you’ve washed your hair, try steaming it. The steam adds moisture to your hair and gives it body. In my book, we call that a buy one get one free deal. One option would be to sit in the steam room at your gym with conditioner on your hair. You can also put a wet towel in the microwave, heat it up for 90 seconds, let it cool down just a little, and then wrap it around your head which is covered with a shower cap, and secure it with a towel. All of these options yield great results.

Switch Up your Shampoo

Maybe the reason your hair is dry is because of the shampoo you’re using? I know. I know. You read the ingredients, were swayed by the fancy-schmancy marketing and art work on the bottle, and you just knew when you bought it, you made the right choice. Sorry babe, it wasn’t. Often times, shampoos from local beauty supply stores and major drug stores are chock full of harsh detergents that strip the hair of its natural moisture. Your best bet? Try using a natural shampoo such as our Moisture Rich Sulfate Free Shampoo or Miracle RepaiRx Strengthening Shampoo.

Get Your Co-Wash On

Some naturals find that they start seeing great results when they completely eliminate shampoo from their routine altogether and start using conditioners to cleanse their scalps. You might be thinking “Wow, not washing my hair sounds gross.”  The reality is that many times our shampoos are stripping our strands of their natural oils, which can lead to dryness and tons of knots and tangles. If co-washing sounds like an option for you, be sure to check out our Quench 3-in-1 Cleansing Co-Wash Conditioner for your co-washing needs.

Go Deep

Another time-tested cure for dry hair is a deep conditioner, and our Honey Miracle Mair Mask and Miracle RepaiRx Deep Hydrating Hair Mask are both great solutions. A proper deep condition should last anywhere between 10 and 25 minutes. After you’ve applied the correct amount and thoroughly combed it through your hair, a cap is needed. Normally, you put the cap on and sit under a dryer. The heat penetrates the deep conditioner so that it can work better. You should try and deep condition your hair at least once every two weeks, but during the winter months you should aim to condition your hair at least once a week.

Ditch the Heavy Moisturizer

The whole purpose of this story is to show you how to add more moisture to your dry hair. However not all “moisturizers” do what they claim they can do. Moisturizers that are full of lanolin or petroleum just coat the hair, not moisturize the scalp. It weighs your hair down, taking away it’s bounce, while not helping to rid the dryness. So 86 the heavy moisturizer, and try one that really lives up to the hype- our Miracle RepaiRx Protective Leave in Conditioner. Enriched with black honey and coconut oil, our lightweight formula will prevent product buildup and give your strands the moisture they crave for soft, shiny, manageable hair without weighing your hair down.

Get Wet

Water is a natural’s best friend. Not only should be spritzing your hair with water everyday to keep your hair soft and moisturized, but you should also be drinking plenty of H20 to keep your strands and your body in tip top shape. Remember, what you put in your body is just as important on your hair. If you’re not taking care of yourself from the inside out, it doesn’t matter what products you try.

There you have it ladies. These are simple tips that you should incorporate into your hair routine to add some moisture to your dry hair. All it takes is a little time and you should be good to go.
