One thing I rarely did growing up was clean my hair brushes. My brushes were literally filled with gel, hair and gunk before I would finally get up the nerve to clean them. As a child I didn’t realize the importance of keeping my hair brushes clean or that unclean brushes were filled with bacteria and dirt. If you too have struggled with keeping your hair brushes clean, or properly cleaning them — keep reading.
1.Get Rid of Hair
The very first thing you need to do is gently remove any hair that is tangled into your brush. A great way to do this is by using a comb to remove it or your fingers if the hair is loose inside of the brush. It’s best to remove hair after use so it doesn’t build up.
2. Shampoo the Brush/Comb
You can either use your favorite deep cleansing shampoo or a mixture of half water and half vinegar to cleanse your comb and brush. Place desired mixture or a few drops of shampoo and warm water into a bowl and thoroughly cleanse your brush. You can use a toothbrush to go in between the bristles of the brush to remove any residue. With combs, you can do the same technique.
3. RinseÂ
Be sure to rinse your brush once you are done scrubbing to remove any residue. Once the brush is completely rinsed, lay it out on a towel to dry. Some brushes take longer to dry so be prepared to leave it out overnight to fully dry.
Repeat this method as needed and be sure to do a basic removal of hair as often as possible to avoid spending excess amounts of time washing the brush.
When is the last time you washed your hair brush?
