This is the raw, unabridged story of the author’s life before the age of 40. It will make you laugh and make you cry, but most of all it will make you take another look at your own life. I could not put it down. It has great business advice and is a must read for every woman. Men need to buy it as a gift for their wives, daughters, friends, as well.

I really enjoyed this book. Initially, I thought it would talk about nothing but cancer. But it touched on so many areas of Chris-Tia’s life. I have handed the book to my mom. It makes you evaluate your life and see what has had an impact of your life and what you can do to make a change. Sometimes it’s the things you least suspect that affects your health. It made me realize just how important self care is. It’s so much I can write about this book, but I’d also leave out a lot. So to receive what I received or even more, I recommend reading it.

The author told her compelling story of her life thus far. She tells of her academic and professional successes, and also, her life’s challenges in health and otherwise. It’s interesting, captivating and relatable. She’s vulnerable and honest in the book, which makes it even more engaging. Her growth and transformation is inspirational and reminds the reader of important life lessons to make each of our lives happier and richer.

Chris-Tia Donaldson (@tginceo) has written a great story about how she received an unexpected life-changing breast cancer diagnosis at age 36; and how her journey through treatment opened her eyes to the unfairness in the healthcare system when it comes to resources available for economically disadvantaged women of color. In This Is Only A Test Chris-Tia shares her experiences growing up in Detroit as the child of two very accomplished parents, attending law school and working as an attorney, and her decision to start her own company aimed at women with natural hair (Thank God It’s Natural). She shares the ups as well as the downs of her life, and how she persevered through it all. Highly recommended this book!

I just finished, This is Only a Test, in 3 days! I saw myself in so many ways from CEO to someone in need of more self-care. I loved how Chris-tia kept it real while also teaching very important lessons. Thank you for sharing your story Chris-tia! The world needs to read this!

I got introduced to Chris-Tia through her products TGIN and I soon became a huge advocate for those amazing hair products. I was the lucky recipient of an Instagram promotion for this book and I appreciated Chris-Tia raw and often painful recollection of moments in her life that brought her to her knees, the trials of being an entrepreneur while working for someone else, getting breast cancer and being in remission and taking a hard look at one’s self and detailing for everyone the flaws, mis steps with some humorous moments. It’s more about how we as women especially black women view ourselves often despite having some privilege and how tragedy can restore our faith in others and make us take a hard long look at ourselves.

If I could describe this book in one word, it would be inspiring. TGIN has been a hair care staple of mine for a couple of years now so when I received an email saying that they would be including a free copy of the CEO’s latest book with your Black Friday purchase, I jumped on it. I wanted to know more about the fabulous woman behind the brand that I loved so much. This is Only a Test gives a glimpse into the author’s upbringing, her career, the start of her hair care brand, and her battle with breast cancer. What I appreciate the most about this book is the author was brutally honest. She admits that despite her being deathly afraid, her diagnosis brought her a significant amount of clarity that she probably wouldn’t have received otherwise. It gave her the opportunity to reflect on her life and realize that even though she had been physically healthy up until that point, her lifestyle was not. She was living to work and burying her emotions instead of facing them head on. This, in particular, resonated with me greatly. Why? Because I do the same thing. Sometimes, we just want to do what we can to get through the day and those pesky things called emotions can be so overwhelming, that it’s easier to just bury them and sort them out later. What I also liked about this book was there were so many gems. From her realization about men: Moral to the story: me don’t ever just break up with a girl or disappear without having a place to go…they always have something teed up and ready to go before they pull the little disappearing act that I’ve seen over and over. to this one about people’s lack of self-awareness We’re often so caught up in the filtered version of other people’s lives, vacations, relationships, marriages, or babies that we can’t even live or enjoy our own lives. there were just so many little tidbits dropped throughout the book that I don’t even have time to list them all. Matter of fact, I’m going to have to go back and highlight some things because the ones I quoted in my status updates aren’t even the half of the things that spoke to me. Overall: A beautifully written book by a very talented and inspiring woman. It kinda has me feeling like I can take on the world now. 5 stars
